- George was an assistant timekeeper at Nasmyth's Foundry. In 1888, when he was 21, he enlisted in the RAMC-Medical Staff Corps 1886, In 1900 he was promted to Warrent Officer. He lived in Malta for a while, Served in South Africa 1900-1902, He fought in the battle of Omduman and in the Egypt war. He was discharged with a pension in 1907, Re Instated May 1915 as a Lieutenant and Quartermaster, Promoted to Captain in 1918, Finally leaving in 1921. George died a Captain after the Afgan War.

He was Secretary of the British Legion for 12 years. He died leaving a wife, two sons and four daughters.
