  John enterd Confederate service on 24th Aug 1861 as a private Company F in the 1st Missouri Infantry; on 13 Feb 1864 he transferred to Company A 17th Virginina Infantry, and was paroled at Richmond on 20th April 1865, He is buried in Ivy Hill cemetery.
