- Joseph A. Eachus of Van Wert, Ohio, passed away May 12, 2017.
He was born January 8, 1933, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to Madge and Ben Eachus. Both preceded him in death.
On December 19, 1954, he married Jane Ellen Norris, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda (Robert) Pelton of Hicksville, Ohio, and Sally (Jack) Jeffery of Lima, Ohio. He has four grandchildren, Laura (Goran) Eftimovski , Jenny (Josh) Gargac, Jeremy Jeffery and Kelsey Jeffery; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Eachus of Minford, Ohio, and Dan Eachus of Tiffin, Ohio.
Joseph was a graduate of Gallipolis Academy High School and earned both his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Ohio University in Athens.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years, living in Erlangen, Germany, while spending 20 months abroad. He was discharged as a first lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers.
following in the footsteps of his father, Joseph was a long-time educator and an accomplished woodworker. He taught industrial arts at schools in Union Furnace, Gallipolis, and Maple Heights, all in Ohio. He was also superintendent at Grover Hill and Payne schools and was also the first superintendent of Wayne Trace Local. Additionally, he taught electronics and drafting at Belmont High School in Decatur, Indiana.
Joseph was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, Ohio, and he used his woodworking skills to make many projects at the church. He also crafted numerous pieces of furniture for his home and those of his children and grandchildren.
