- Ethel was in service with the Lancaster Family untill the second world war when she went as a nurse. On leaving the family they presented her with a large porcelane Lady with dog, which is still in the family. They also sewed a cloth for her with the following words;
1933-43 Christmas comes, a happy feast; New Year follows on; 10 busy years have come and gone since little Ethel trim and neat arrived at 20 Talbot St; To mark the end of these 10 years we who now make our abode at 32 Lancaster Rd send thanks for all the care she lends to us Leo Ann and hers.

Ethel was Engaged to be married to a soldier called Ron, but unfortunately he was Killed in the War, and she remained single.
