William H Willets is thought to have proposed to Nellie at the Quaterbridge Hotel, Douglas. Marriage Certificate shows him to be a Butcher, farm labourer and No.97040 Rifleman with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Hids address on the certificate was 2 Oxford Street, Douglas and also Christchurch, New Zealand.

not alot known by the reasercher Tony Quirk, apart form the fact that she was a little eccentric, she once sent a scarf full of holes to Betty & Stan Cowin on their wedding day. She was in domestic service in 1901 at 81 Albany Road, Douglas, she married 1) Mr Faragher, a police man at Stanton, and then 2) Mr Mason. she had a daughter who fell over railings at the Douglas Bay Hotel, and was Killed.

Margaret Ann Married a Bert CAUGHERTY [presumably Robert] - no other details at this time.
My notes: Apparently lived in Lord Street, Douglas, IOM and then moved to High View Road, when he was made Chief Fire Officer. Supposedly had a mistress. Alleged he found a doorway from the old Fire Station in John Street, Douglas, which led into the Town Hall. He used to enter and steal clothes and food coupons (wartime) to "keep his mistress in the style she had become used too!!" He was eventually caught and sent to jail [Reports in local newspapers!!]

Aunt, Eleanor Gelling. She was supposedly lonely and Rose went to live with her to keep her company. She eventually left the house to Rose and her son Donald (equal shares). However when Donald was married and living in Ashton-under-Lyne he forced the sale of the house to realise his half of the equity. He eventually received Rose's half share on her death. Married to Captain MADDRELL and has son Don who was MHK. Captain Madrell went to Canada and when he asked Rose & Don to join him she refused. She later married STARKEY, although there is some suggestion she was not free to do so - Bigamist marriage? Possibly married STARKEY in Ashton-under-Lyne! Had twins as well who were adopted-(possibly reared in Laxey or one in Peel).
