Notes: George obtained his practical training on the Great Eastern Railway and under the late Mr. Wentworth-Sheilds. He then took up consulting work, and for 29 years before his death, in addition to an extensive private practice, comprising sewerage and many other works in England and abroad, he acted as Engineer and Surveyor to the Edmonton Urban District Council, in which capacity he was responsible for many local public works and gave especial attention to the question of the Lea Valley drainage. he was a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers dec 4th 1866 to 28 Mar 1871. George married Frances Goodwin Verralls on 30 Mar 1867 in St Mary's Parish Church, Hornsey Rise, Middlesex.. Frances (daughter of Thomas Alfred Verralls and Sarah J Hutchinson) was born in 1845 in Highgate, Middlesex; died in 1920 in Hartford R D; was buried on 15 May 1920 in Camden, England. She Departed back to Canada 20 Aug 1954 age 70, from Liverpool to Montreal Canada on the Empress of Scotland. |
