    Robert volunteerd for WW1 Arrived France 17 Oct 1915, initially as a signaller, then he transferred to the RFC [air mechanic 2nd class] as an observer spotting the landing of shells and guiding artillery. became an officer 1917, and was brought back to England as a navigational instructer serving at Marham and then Yatesbury. When the RAF was formed in 1918 he became a lieutenant (technical). He was still on th RAF list in March 1919 but with no specific post and must have left before April 1920. After the war he set up a parnership manufacturing oxidised products such as bowls, vases and mirror surrounds, which were sold to Liberty of London, with a change in fashions turnover declined and he re-joined the post office. He later Managed the The Post Office Telephones office in Peterborough and was then posted to Portsmouth to manage the office there during the 2nd world war. After the war he was transferred to manage the office in Brighton, where the family lived in a rented house , 7 Pembroke Crescent, Hove. he retired at the age of 60, and unfortunately died age 62, after his death Frances Mary acquired the freehold to the property and let the Ground floor.
