BOY CYCLISTS ADVENTURE: Manchester Courier Sept 17th 1909 Exiting Incident at Northwich An exiting and dangerous experience of two Northwich Grammer School Boys came to light yesterday. Four boys were cycling along the banks of the river Weaver, when the wheel of B Orme of Victoria Road, Northwich, struck a plank and he was flung out of the saddle, and flopped over into the river below, the bicycle falling after him. It was a drop of at least ten feet and Orme was unable to swim. A companion Norman Eachus of the Crescent Northwich, was riding in the rear, and seeing Ormes plight, threw his bicycle against the side , quickly removed his coat, and dived from the wall. He seized his companion and a sruggle took place beneath the surface of the water, Orme almost dragging his resquer to the bottom. Eventually Eachus freed himself and managed to swim with Orme to the side, which is hung by chains, and both lads were got safely ashore. December 24th 1909 Brave Cheshire Schoolboy Honoured. An Unusual and interesting spectacle was witnessed at the breaking up of the Northwich Grammer School for Christmas, When Norman Eachus a young pupil was presented with the Royal Humane Society's certificate and a brass tablet commemorating his act of bravery was placed in the school. Eachus was the leading figure in one of the pluckiest incidents ever recorded in Cheshire. Four schoolboy's were cycling on the Weaver's towing path, when one collided with a balk of timber and was lifted ten feet into deep water, he could not swim. Eachus took a dive into the streem, had a tremdous struggle with his comraid, but eventually briught him to the bank, and a boat conveyed them to safety.
