757 Anna Ruth Francis was the daughter of Irving Ernest Frances and Margarte Mary Sullivan
Her children announce her peaceful passing early on the morning of April 24, 2012, at age 89; and do so with that mixture of sadness and joy that befit a long life well lived. The words "beloved wife" cannot begin to describe the depth and breadth of the relationship she shared with our father Albert, who she met at age 15, married at age 17, and thrived with for some 64 years, until his death in 2003. Nor can the words "loving daughter" adequately express the adoration she and Albert had for her parents, Irv and Margaret Francis, for whom they lovingly cared in the closing years. All four, Ann and Al, Irv and Margret, will now rest together, side-by-side, in Vacaville, California, their adoptive home for more than 40 years.
Born in Sacramento in 1922, Ann was truly an icon of her great generation. She married her high school sweetheart, became a mother at age 19, donned coveralls to become a burner-welder in the Sausalito shipyards during WWII, settled one of the first "breakout" suburbs of Sacramento, the Fruitridge district, raised three perfect children and worked to support her husband through business school before moving to Vacaville and thirty-something years of idyllic life on the golf course. She was loving mother, scout leader (both girls and boys), active church member, caring neighbor and the very heart of our family.
In 1983, she underwent an early version of cardiac bypass surgery. The doctors said she had suffered serious damage to her heart and would only survive a few more years. She took exception to their prognosis.
Ann is survived by her children and their spouses ? Pat Braziel and Sam Anderson, Irv and Sue Eachus, and Sue and Bill Menning ? and by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

where he worked for the Banca D'Italia and served as an assistant to the Italian Consul General. At the outbreak of the second world war he renounced his Italian citizenship and claimed British subjectship as he was born in Scotland. During and

Italian birth. Since he was fluent in both the Italian and English language and law, he was called upon during the war effort for many services which included hundreds of local and taped broadcasts which were directed at Italian - Americans and native
Italians in defense of the American cause. Many of the broadcasts were made in the formative days of Radio Free Europe.

Murder in pool Street 1875 (A1/20)

The Boar War broke out in 1899, the Dutch-speaking Boers of the Transvaal and Orange Free State invaded the British Colonies, including the Cape, and at first made rapid progress due to surprise, their speed of manoevre (mostly mounted untill going into battle), courage and excellent marksmanship from the saddle. The British army and local units managed to prevent a major breakthrough and eventually extra troops arrived which steadily drove the Boers back into their own territory. In the end, their two republics were completely overrun.
With no given date for Archers arrival in Cape Colony, one cannot be sure of what actions he would have experienced, but the 4th battalions of regiments then were normally part-time ones who would serve in Britain. In the emergency, they would have become full-time for any volunteers willing to go abroad, so Archer may have been a part-time soldier prior to 1899. (Kingpin Notes MISC 1/16)
