On 22 March 1792 Joshua Vaughan of Aston Township, Blacksmith, and Jane his wife sold to Evan Eachus of Edgmont Township, Saddler. a messuage and tract in Aston Township containing 100 acres for ?375. The deed was acknowledged and recorded 22 March 1792.
It appears that Evans was a shrewd land trader and he bought and sold a number of farms during his lifetime. In addition he was also a substantial citizen. His name appears frquently as a witness on will and on other papers. At the time of his death,
he owned three farms, 110 acres in Upper Providence on which he lived and which he left to his son Emmor, 125 acres in Edgmont which he left to his sonEder, who had operated it since 1832, and 78 acres in Thornbury, which his executors were instructed
to sell. In his will he made specific bequests to his daughters and grandchildren, which totaled $10,000. And he specified that the proceeds from the Thornbury farm were to be divided equally among his heirs.
Evans owned the land in Upper Providence when he married Hannah. He appears on censuses 1800-50. The farm was at the upper end of Upper Providence next to Edgmont Township, with the Bishops as neighbours. The farm remained in the family untill 1914.

Evans married Hannah Russell on 31 Oct 1791 in Chester County Monthly Meeting. Hannah (daughter of William Russell and Susanna Griffith) was born about 1770 in Chester County, Pa. US; died on 3 Nov 1836 in Middletown; was buried in Old Friend Burial Ground, Middletown. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Enoch moved his family frequently when they were young, according to the tax records and Esther,s transfers among monthly meetings of the Society of Friends. In 1749 and 1750 they were in Goshen. In 1753 and 1754 in Nether Providence. In 1756, they
were briefly in East Marlborough. From 1757 to 1762 they were in Kennett. In 1763, Esther's father, Thomas Evans, granted 175 acres in Goshen to Enoch and they moved back to Goshen. Although Enoch and Esther sold this 175 acres to their son William in
1784, they continued to live there. Enoch died in Goshen sometime before June 12th 1790, when letters of administration were granted to his son Evans. He did not leave a will and the Chester county Archives contain only an inventory of his property at the time he died.
By a deed of 14th Aug 1784 Enoch Eachus of Goshen Township, Yeoman, and Esther his wife granted to William Eachus, Jn, of the same place for ?600 a messuage and a tract of 175 acres in Goshen Township. It being the same messuage and tract which Thomas
Evans, by an indenture of 19 and 20 1763 had granted to Enoch Eachus. The deed was recorded 15th Sept 1785
On 26th Nov 1754 at Providence Enoch petitioned/complained about one of his slaves a John Taylor who caused trouble, was a runaway and was expensive to keep.

Esther Married Enoc Eachus shortly before Dec 16th 1745, Because on that date it was reported to the Goshen Monthly Meeting that Esther Evans had been married before a Priest to one who was not a member of the Society of Friends, and two Friends were
appointed to deal with her. On 20th Jan 1746 the case of Esther Evans was continued at her request, On May 19th 1746 it was reported that Esther Eachus is delivered of a child too soon after marriage. A Testimony against her was prepared and she was
disowned as a member of the Meeting. however, in 1752, Esther Eachus produced an " Acknowledgement" ** to Goshen Meeting for her outgoing, which was accepted and she was reinstated as a member. On 16 Aug 1753, Esther Eachus requested a Certificate of
removal to Chester Monthly meeting, which was signed 21st Sept 1753.
Esther Evans was the daughter of Thomas Evans of Goshen Township, Chester County. who in his will dated 5th Oct 1763 left his daughter Margerat, wife of William Bane a clock and case and ?50. To Son David Evans ?10, To his Daughter Esther Haines
Eachus, wife of Enoch Eachus, he left ?50. All the remainder he left to his two daughters, Margaret and Esther. In a Codcil dated 20h June 1765 he reduced Davidd legacy to 1/- and gave ?10 to his daughter Esther Eachus. The will was proved 25th March
1766.

Esther Evans was a direct descendant of early settler John Haines

In his will dated 10 July 1801 and proved 15th March 1802, William
Russell of Edgemont Township, Saddler names his wife Lydia and children
Jesse, Obed, John, William, Hannah wife of Evan Eachus and Sarah wife of
Joseph Register. Sons Obed and John to have joint ownership of the Plantation
on north side of Rdley creek. The Eeccutors were Obed and Jesse Russell, the
witnesses were George Green, Abraham Hoopes and David McGowen.

William married Susanna Griffith on 25 Jul 1763 in Newtown Meeting House, Goshen MM. Susanna was born about 1740 in Chester County, Pa, US; was buried on 2 May 1788 in Old Friends Burial Ground,Middletown,. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Robert was the first Eachus in America. His presence is documented in a number of sources, including a history of "Chester & Delaware Counties," Gilbert & Cope: " The first ancester to appear on the records is Robert Eachus, who on December 5th 1704, purchased two hundred acres of land from Richard Thomas...... "
The Eachus family had been Tenant Farmers in Church Minshull and Minshull Vernon since the 13th Century, by the 17th century there was a lot of poverty and disease in the area and they would have had a hard life. One of the wealthier families in the Minshull area was the Minshul Family, they did a lot for the community including helping to fund the Church rebuild in 1702. In 1682 Thomas Minshul and his wife Margaret settled in Pennsylvania, and the family made money by sending ships to America with fee paying passengers. Many inhabitants of the area worked their passage to America on these ships. and it would have been easy for the Eachus family of Minshull, to arrange a trip for their cousin Robert to work his passage in this way. Family legend says that he sailed from Chester in 1700, which would fit perfectly with the Minsul ships. Another pointer is the fact that the coat of arms of the minshul family was a Turks Head. Robert's Grandson Phineas opened an Inn on his land and called it the Turks Head, The Turks Head was in the centre of what is now West Chester (corner of Gay Street & High Street).
The first mention of Robert Eachus in America is in 1704 when he delivered a deed of mortgage to Richard Thomas for 200 acres of land dated 6th day of December 1704. ( from the records of the courts of Chester County Pa 1697-1710)
According to the Tax records his first son John was born in 1707, and Ann in 1712, but according to the IGI he was not married untill 1713. There is no other evidence of this date and one of 1706 would be better suited to the facts. A date of 1707 in Birmingham Township, Chester, Pennsylvania, is given by some, and as Elizabeth's family were living in Birmingham township this is entirely possible, but I have found no evidence to support this.
Robert spent his life after 1704 as a farmer on his land in Goshen, and died between 3 December 1727, when he signed his will, and 26 nov 1728, when it was proved.
To his wife Elizabeth he left one half his Plantation where he lived containing 200 acres during her life. To his son John he left the other half of said Plantation and the whole of same at the death of his wife. To his son William he left 200 acres north of above land, and to have the liberty to work upon the same at 19. To his youngest sons Robert, Enoch and Daniel he left ?10 each at 14. To his three daughters Elizabeth, Ann and Alice he left ?5 each. His Executors were his wife Elizabeth and his son John .

Pennsylvania was settled in 1630 by Dutch pioneers who came up the Delaware Bay and river and settled at Gloucester point.
Swedes began to arrive about 1631, Their first landing was at New Castle, which they named Stockholm. King Charles II, in 1664, whose claim to New England gave him power to claim to the southward, he granted patent to his brother James, Duke of York and Albany. New York being named after the Duke. In 1675 the west part of this area was sold to one Edward Byllinge of the Society of Friends, to whom William Penn, soon afterwards, became a trustee. Penn, in his efforts to settle the estate of Bylling, became so well acquainted with the region of Pennsylvania and colonial settlements, as to be afterwards induced to purchase that for himself, by recieving it as an equivalent for claims due to his father, Admiral Penn. In 1677 the ship Kent arrived with 230 passengers. They landed at Raccoon Creek. Other vessels continued to follow to Jersey. In 1681 William Penn induced people to emigrate by selling them one hundred acres for 40 shillings (2 GB pounds - value in 2002 - 300 GB pounds). In the years after 1683 emigration increased, Pioneers came from England, Ireland, Wales, The Netherlands and Germany. One of these early pioneers was Robert Eachus

Robert married Elizabeth Harry on 13 Mar 1708 in Goshen, Chester County, Pennsylvania, America. Elizabeth (daughter of Hugh Harry and Elizabeth Brinton) was born in 1690 in Dilworth, Birmingham, Township, Pa; died on 8 Mar 1758 in East Malborough, Chester County, Pennsylvania; was buried in 1758 in Kennett Burial Ground, Kennett Square, Chester County, U.S.. After the death of Robert Eachus, Elizabeth was left with seven young children. So it is not surprising that within a year, she married a widower John Gleave, and taken most of her children with her to live with him in Springfield. The signatures under those of the bride and groom were Elizabeth Harry, Hester Willis, William Brinton, Thomas Speakman, John Eachus, Elizabeth Eachus, etc
The month after her marriage Elizabeth Gleave requested a certificate of removal to Chester Monthly Meeting on 21st April 1729.
In May 1756, Elizabeth Gleave was received as a member of Newark Monthly Meeting on a certificate from Chester Monthly Meeting.
Elizabeth Gleave died 8th March 1758 and was buried at Kennett Meeting. The Will of Elizabeth Gleave, Widow, is dated 28th Jan 1758, and was prooved 21st March 1758. To her son John Eachus she left 5/-, to son William Eachus 10/- , to son Robert Eachus 10/-, to her son Enoch Eachus she left ?5, to son Daniel Eachus her riding mare, to daughter Ann Wickersham wearing Apparel. The remainder to be equally divided between her son Daniel Eachus and her son-in-law James Wickersham, who were also her Executors. The witnesses were Thomas Carleton and Daniel Bailey

Information from Swathmore College says that Hugh Harry and his family were Seventh Day Baptists.
