Walter was known as Whally he was conscripted to the RAF in 1945 then after the war he did a plastering course as part of his demob training. Then went to work in the Courtaulds Laboratoties but had to leave because the chemicals gave him dermatitis. He thenbecame a fitter for the Railways.
