Pioneer of Pinon Mesa Died Today
One of the early settlers of the Pinon Mesa district, David Eachus, died this morning at 8:15 at the hospital where he was taken a few days ago for treatment.
Mr Eachus, who was 81 years old, came to the western slope in November, 1894 and established a cattle ranch on Pinon Mesa at that time an undeveloped and practically inaccessible section. He took part in the road building on Glade Park and in other work which helped to develop the community.
He had been ill since last January, spending the majority of the time in the city with his son, Archie. He returned to his home for a visit only a week ago, and was brought to Grand Junction to the hospital Wednesday.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sarah Eachus, and his daughters, Mrs. Archie Lawson, Mrs. J. C. Roehms, Mrs. C. W. Mow, Glade Park, and his sons, Archie and Joseph, also of Glade Park. Three other children preceded him in death.

James married Elizabeth Jordan Pike on 16 Jun 1846. Elizabeth was born on 25 Mar 1830 in Illinois. America; died on 15 Jun 1889 in San Joaquin, California; was buried on 23 Jun 1889 in Dutch Corners. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

An obituary dated 17th July 1889;
Elizabeth Jorden Eachus a native of Illinois, was born March 25th 1830; was married to James Dooly Eachus, 16th June 1846. During the same year she was converted with her husband, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and during the forty three years since, through removals to Iowa and later to California, in city or camp or rural home, she remained faithfull to her church. Five sons and three daughters came to the home of this good couple. They were cared for, trained, came to maturity, and all but one yet remains to bless the memory of the Christian mother whom they so deeply mourn. On june 15th, one day before her wedding anniversary she quietly. peachfully, fell asleep.
Brother Eachus brought his family to the west side of the San Joaquin, twelve miles from Newman, about twelve years ago and there they have since lived. Nearly five years ago the writer first met them. Delightfull will the memory always be of the
loving generous yet unostentatious hospitality, joined in by all this family, extended to the Presiding Elder on his visits. This has always been the preacher's stopping place, an itinerant's home. She died of cancer of the stomach or a place adjacent
to there, She endured five months of pain. Three months before her death, a heavy stroke came in the death of a married son.
Sister Eachus was a diligent, hospitable homekeeper, a loving, tender, faithful wife and mother, a clear-headed, self reliant, intellectual woman with strong convictions and affections and loyal to them; and above all she was an earnest Christian. The
immense audience that attended the memorial service at Dutch Corners, on june 23rd, evidence the regard with which she was held by the community. The stricken husband and children, the aged mother, the multitude of friends remaining, have their sorrows temperd by the memory of her Christian graces and her last triumph. (initialed JBG)

Mary Dooly was born about 1785 in Maryland. She died in 1856 and was buried in Wayland, Iowa, in the Graveyard of the Methodist Church. This was reported by Margaret Miller who saw the Tombstone. Her husband Samuel, was recorded as recently widowed in the 1856 Henry County, Iowa, Census. Mary died very soon after moving to Iowa from Illinois. Mary Dooley's daughter Julia F Kane, is buried besides her. Julia had married Robert C Kane who was born in Pennsylvania. Julia's daughter Emma Kane, came to California & married Peter Burdewick. They had two Children
