    Homer Eachus son of Homer and Lydia M (Green) Eachus, received his education in the public schools of his native place, and at Josiah Hoopes Academy, in West Chester. After leaving school he engaged in the produce business in Cinncinatti, Ohio, where he remained three years, Upon his return to Delaware county he became a farmer, and in 1876, purchased a farm in Westtown township, Chester County, which he cultivated untill 1885, when he relinquished the management of the estate to his sons. Politically he was a Natiional Democrat, and was once nominated for county commissioner of Delaware county, but on account of the large Republican majority was defeated at the polls. He was a man much respected and trusted by his neighbours, and for twenty-one years served as president of the school board of his township. For a number of years he was connected with the farmers Insurance Company of Chester County.

    "Homer Eachus was the first to engage in mercantile life at Providence, and later removed to Howellville, Delaware County, where he built a store which he conducted for some time. In 1821 he engaged in farming, an occupation which he followed for the greater part of his active life. In Politics he was a Democrat always, but during the civil war gave unqualified support President Lincoln and the cause of the Federal government. He took an active part in the aaffairs of the Society of Friends"

    Homer senior is buried near his son Homer in the Cumberland Cemetery. The only information readable on his grave stone were the month of death, and that he was aged 77 years

    and then moved to Barlmore county, maryland, where for a short time he was
    engaged in farming. On his return he settled in Haverford township, Delaware
    county where he passed the remainder of his life, his occupation being that of
    a farmer. In politics he was an old line Whig. Virgil and his first wife,
    Bathsheba Webb, had nine children. When she died Virgil married Mary Starr and

    Gilbert Cope copied the Dutton Records of deaths ,marraiges etc....a work compiled by or inthe possetion of Hannah Dutton for many years. A death is listed for Virgil eachus on 9-10-1839. It is likely that this is the Virgil eachus refered to in that work. Gilbert copied this list in 1873 and published his " Chester and Delaware Counties" work in 1904 so he should have the correct date for Virgils death.
