William Birkett

Notes:

William and his brother Richard sent 40 dozen hats at 9/6d a dozen to Jamaica on the "Two Brothers". Richard also sent 30 dozen coarswoolen hats on the same ship two years earlier. In 1798 William resided at Lower Moorhead. William was also a farmer. In his will he left ?40 to his son James, ?30 to his daughters Betty, Sally & Mary, to be paid 12 months after his death. He left ?6 to his grandson William Harrison, ?3 each to the two daughters of his son Richard, deceased. when they reach the age of 21. He left to his son William all his share of the working Tools and hat making utensils and all his farming stock. His son William was the sole executor and his good friend William Dilworth of Ortner, Wyersdale, Farmer, to be supervisor of his will. His estate was valued at ?354 5s 2d.

Notes:

Timothy Cragg was described by John Kelsall in his diary as "a grave solid man". His friend Scholfield said he was a "man of some attainments, much zeal and great self assurance" Timothy and his family were protestant and they were all raised and educated well. He speaks of remembering the plaque in london and a book called "Crumbs of comfort" which had a prayer in it that was to be read in times of pestilence.

Agnes was the daughter of Peter Jackson [1635-1691] & Janet Geldar [born 1635]
In her will [written in 1730] Agnes appointed her sons David & Titus as Executors, she gave her sheep, Bedstead, Curtain, Blue Cadda Clock and Chest to her son David. To Titus she gave ?10, her bed and boulster. Her son John was give ?10 one pair of blankets, one pair of canvas sheets and an old Boulster. Her daughter Margaret Birkett was given ?4 and Margarets daughter Elizabeth Birkett was give ?6 and a pair of Linen Sheets, and to Agnes Birket a pair of linen sheets. Her daughter Dorothy Knowles was given ?11, one pair of blankets, one pair of canvas sheets and one pillow. She directed that all these legacies were to be paid one year after her death except to her son John, which was put on deposit for nine years with the interst being paid to john during this period, after which the capitol was to be paid to him.
