    Notes:

The Mill owners if East Rochester, New Hampshire, U.S.A sent recruitment men to the North of England to hire the best men to work in the Woolen Mill in East Rochester. One of the requirements of the employment was to attend either the Baptist or Methodist Church in East Rochester. In return the Mill Owners built rows of Mill Housing right along Front Street. Behind the houses were large areas for the residents to have gardens, Each house had a cold cellar for storing vegetables, and they made every effort to line Front Street with shade trees. Most of the Housing was built under the direction of Stephen Shory who was the head carpenter for the mill. The Mill also started a free library for it's workers and their families. The Mill prosperd in the Civil War makeing cloth for uniforms, but unfortunately for the Mill workers the Houses remained the property of the Mill, the rent was taken directly out of the workers wages, and if for some reason you lost your job, you also lost your home.
The Mill closed in the late 20th century and is now a ruin. Sadly the area has also become a slum area.
