    County of Salop

    The examination of witnessess taken on oath this 28th day of December 1831 before me, Joesph Aldrich Cotton clerk of one of his Majesty's Justices of the peace acting in and for the said County of Salop, in the presence and hearing of Peter Eachus charged this day before me the said justice with felonously stealing at the parish of Ellesmere in the said county, six small pieces of oak veneers, ten oak boards and twelve small pieces of black oak. The property of Charles Kynasten Mainwaring of Oteley Park. in the said county of Salop Esquire.
    William Whalley clerk of the works for the said Charles Kynasten Mainwaring, upon his oath sayeth that in the month of August Last the prisoners Peter Eachus and his two son's, who are cabinate makers, where employed at the new hall at Oteley. They worked in the servant's hall and slept in one of the servant's bedchambers in the said hall. The prisoner was employed in various jobs in the said servants hall where there were a quantity of oak vaneers and oak boards. In consequence of some goods being found in a plantation made of wire similar to that of the bell wall in the new hall, and also some potatoes being missed and the prisoners dog seen at night near the spot where the potatoes were taken from, and the prisoner's son's frequently going toward the plantation where the G....ns were set. The prisioner was suspected and I searched his box which contained some oak vaneers which corresponded to those in the servants hall, and on the 23rd December instant I went with John Mason one of the constables of Ellsmere to search the prisoner's premises at Sandbach in Cheshire, and found the six pieces of oak vaneers, ten oak boards and the twelve pieces of black oak now produced by John Mason which I have seen at the new hall and are the property of Mr Mainwaring.

    John Mason one of the constables of Ellsmere in the said county upon his oath saith on the 23rd December 1831 instant I went with the last witness to search the house and premises of the prisoner in Sandbach in Cheshire, and found the six pieces of oak vaneer, ten oak boards and the twelve small pieces of oak now produced which Mr William Whalley at the time I found them identified them as the property of Mr Mainwaring.
