He was a Corperal in the 4th Royal Lancashire Regiment, at Bowerham Barracks. he became a Police Constable in Lancaster before joining up for the Great War of 1914-18. in the Kings own Royal Lancashire Regiment, He was discharged in 1915 with the rank of C.S.M. Warrent Officer Class ll , in France with injuries from Shrapnel wounds which resulted in him haveing a metal plate inserted in his head, He then went back to the Police.
