Edward was a sapper #1137. Royal Engineers, 2nd East Lancs Mediterranean Force. He was badley wounded at the Gallipoli Landings in 1915. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on the 23 October 1917, by the Mayor of Salford, for gallantry and devotion to duty. and mentioned in despatches. He formed a small club in the 1920's for Ex Servicemen. Pre War he was in the T A . He served in Egypt 1914 and was Discharged 29th June 1916 (medically unfit).
