He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on the 23 October 1917, by the Mayor of Salford, for gallantry and devotion to duty. and mentioned in despatches. He formed a small club in the 1920's for Ex Servicemen. Pre War he was in the T A . He served in Egypt 1914 and was Discharged 29th June 1916 (medically unfit). Edward married Teresa Murphy in 1901 in Scotch Presbyterian, Pendleton.
