Henry and his brothers Walter and Alfred all became bricklayers. In 1881 Henry was a builder in Birmingham employing two men and living with his family of then five children at 52 Brunswick Road, Balsall Heath. His wife, Elizabeth n?ee Phipps, had been a nursemaid to at least two families in Birmingham. Elizabeth's family were from Madeley, Shropshire.
But within a year or so Henry had emigrated to New York together with his family although they did not travel together. He was followed by Alfred and then by Walter and his family.
Henry continued with his occupation as a bricklayer and biulder in New York and the family lived in the Flatbush district of Brooklyn.
The three brothers are commemorated by Bucknall Villas, Tiverton Road, Selly Oak and according to family lore, played a major role in the expansion of New York. No definitive record of Henry and Walter sailing to New York has yet been found. As Henry's family sailed in 1885 and Walter's family sailed in 1888, it seems Henry travelled well before Walter.
Henry married Elizabeth Phipps in 1873 in St John's, Ladywood. Birmingham. Elizabeth (daughter of Samuel Phipps and Unknown) was born in 1843 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England; died in 1915 in New York, America; was buried on 2 May 1915 in Evergreen Cemetery, New York..
