Notes: Joseph Verdin was Master of the Flat vessel "Antelope" and, with his brother Richard (see above), was the co-founder of the prosperous salt manufacturers 'Joseph Verdin & Sons', formerly known as 'Joseph and Richard Verdin', which rose rapidly to prominence in the boom years of 1860-1870. The Verdins were listed as shippers of white salt at Northwich in 1844 and as salt manufacturers by 1850 and by 1863 the family interests had spread to Winsford. In the 1851 Census his family are recorded as living at 211, Sandy Bank, Witton, Northwich, Cheshire, and in the 1861 Census at 96, Fleming Street, Witton, Northwich, Cheshire.
