Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Theobald Verdon was born in 1743 in (in/of) Northwich, Cheshire, England (son of Michael Verdon and Mary Callen); died before 1770.

    Notes:

He moved to Liverpool with his elder brother, Peter, about 1764 to seek work. His name was removed from the family pedigree on account of his marriage to Mary Broome "that Protestant woman from Armagh". He possibly took the name Verdin when disowned by his family. It is said that the very Catholic Verdon family regarded Theobald as a wicked man and made the sign of the cross whenever his name was mentioned. He worked as a Mariner. Not knowing that his wife was expecting their child, Theobald went to sea in 1766 and did not return for ten years. On his return he set up home in Newry, Ireland and never ever returned to Northwich. Mary remarried in Liverpool, England on 24 April 1770 and had two further children with her second husband, John Cook.

Information taken from the Booklet " The du Verdun Family History" , compiled by Stephen L Doane in 2002/2005.

Many Family trees and other publications on the internet connect this family with the De Verdon Family of Norman Origins. Although actual sources are hard to find.
