    John was a well known Chess Player, forming the Rhyl Town Chess Club, he was the vice-President of the North Wales Chess Association, and had the distiction of being one of the few players to draw against the then World Champion Mr Lasker in 1907. John T was also a member of the Rhyl Town Council, a church warden at the Parish Church, was one of the first members to join the Holywell Volunteer Corps and in his day was a crack shot. He was also one of the trustees of the "Lord Mostyn" Lodge of the Oddfellows.

    John T supplied the Explosive for the Mersey Rail Tunnel.
