Ann died just months after her husband, the family maintains she starved herself to death because of grief . They had five children at this time and the youngest ones were put into an orphanage in Liverpool. Their eldest child Maggie went into service to earn money to get them out which she eventually did. Joe the youngest was raised by his sisters primarily Mary.
